THE STUDIO
Callidus Guild is one of the world’s most elite wallcovering design and production studios, offering handpainted wallpaper and direct installation of fine finishes.
We are the vision of principal fine artist Yolande Milan Batteau, who brings decades of aesthetic and decorative skills from her personal practice to the studio.
We offer everything from our in-house wallpaper line, to on-site surface installation to design consultation and licensing.
We design, create, and install surfaces and wallcoverings for the gamut of interiors all over the world: from elevated small-scale residential rooms and feature walls to grand, opulent commercial and hospitality spaces.
In contrast to our international connectedness, our wallpaper and panels have always been produced by hand in New York City. Our resident and rotating teams of artists and specialists are acutely trained and talented. Their superiority is echoed in the quality of our product offering.
OUR ETHOS
AUTHENTICITY.
Each of our papers is designed and produced completely by hand in our Brooklyn studio, using methods and techniques developed over the last 30 years. We draw from ancient arts and modern manufacturing in equal parts, using the best of both to our advantage. Each paper or product is the result of many hours of dedicated historical research and preparation. We aim to always be original, irreplicable and one-of-a-kind.
BEAUTY.
Using various plasters, precious metals, glazes, waxes and handmade paints, we create projects from scratch and tailor to clients’ exacting directions. While each project is unique, key processes include tooling, embedding and manipulating classical materials to singular aesthetics that appear nowhere else. We offer the most beautiful and luxurious hand-painted wallcovering on the market.
HARMONY.
Our paints and plasters are water-based, naturally anti-microbial and anti-fungal, and low VOC. We produce quantities that minimize wastage and offcuts. This harmony is echoed in our studio structure: every artist is paid a living wage, receives extensive on-site and in-studio training, and is encouraged to pursue personal practices outside of Callidus Guild.
Made by hand, made by artists, made in New York City. Always.
