THE MATTE COLLECTION
The Matte Collection is a practice in reinterpretation: slaked lime and marble plaster, both ancient and invaluable materials, are reimagined and recontextualized to suit the modern aesthetic. Soft and subtle texturesabound in surfaces formed from pulverized slabs of marble, crushed into aggregates that range in size and texture from rough and sandy to finely powdered.
Light flitters off of the minute valleys and peaks made by the variable, organic distribution of stone fragments, evoking a remembrance of ephemeral, chalky exterior walls from centuries past, of whitewashed walls and ancient stone buildings. Favoring muted tones and broken color washes, these surfaces are akin to the depth and serenity of suede or stone when applied.
Comprised of four distinct surfaces: Chaux, Patiné, Silice, and Terne.
CHAUX
An organic, loose and playful finish; undulating waves of chalky strata evoke geologic formations. Marble dust, plaster and lime are coaxed into forming ripples and pools.
PATINÉ
Patiné is subtle but steadfast. This quiet lime and pigment frottage is a soft, inviting cloud matte finish that changes with the light. A living, breathing surface gently manipulated to bloom in a subtle, dappled pattern.
SILICE
Silice is a textural finish that evokes weatherworn exterior walls along the Mediterranean Sea, sun bleached and salt eroded. Multiple layers of varying sized marble aggregate suspended in a lime render offer depth and warmth. It lends bone-simple spaces a sense of age and permanence.
TERNE
Terne is both directional and soft: an oversized oblique crosshatch of lime and marble powder.
